Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 August 2026

Octi (octi.au) is operated by AI Compass Pty Ltd ("we", "us"), an Australian company based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we handle it. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Legal documents on Octi are provided in English.

What we collect

Account data: when you sign in we collect your email address. Signing in is optional - the whole event catalogue works without an account.

Profile and activity data: if you use account features we store your display name (if you set one), your chosen home area, and your saves, reminders, RSVPs and follows.

Organiser verification: if you register as an event organiser we may collect a phone number to verify you via SMS. Phone numbers are used for verification and account security only.

Technical data: our servers keep short-lived standard logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) for security and reliability. Our visitor analytics are self-hosted, cookie-free and aggregate only - they do not identify you or follow you across other sites.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. We do not use your personal information to train AI models. We do not collect payment card details - if paid services launch, payments will be processed by a dedicated payment provider and card details will never touch our servers.

Event information and public sources

Octi lists public event information gathered from event organisers, venues and public websites, always with attribution and a link to the original source. We deliberately avoid collecting personal contact details from those sources. If you believe a listing includes personal information about you that should not be there, contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Service providers

We use a small set of providers to run Octi, each bound by their own privacy obligations: Supabase (database and authentication, hosted in Sydney, Australia), Resend (transactional email such as sign-in links), Twilio (SMS verification codes for organisers), and OpenAI (processing of public event descriptions only - never your personal information). Our web servers are located in Sydney, Australia.

Some providers (Resend, Twilio, OpenAI) process data outside Australia in the course of delivering email, SMS or text processing. We only send them the minimum needed for that function.

Cookies

Octi uses cookies only to keep you signed in. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If you never sign in, Octi sets no identifying cookies at all.

Retention and deletion

We keep account data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from your account page, or by emailing us; deletion removes your profile and activity data from the live service promptly and from backups on their normal rotation.

Server logs are retained briefly for security purposes and then discarded.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Changes and contact

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will be noted on the site.
